Thai Boxing

Muay Thai, the ancient combat technique formerly used on Thai battlefields, is an exciting and challenging sport. There is just something different about watching a live bout than seeing it on the television.

Phuket has some of the finest golf courses in Asia. Facilities are superb, prices are very reasonable and standards are high, there are enough challenges to stretch all players.

With the amount of time you'll be spending on the beach it’s understandable that you might want to hit the gym while you're here. A little extra around the middle might be nice when the mercury drops but, 'spare tires' have no place on the beach.

Bungy Jumping

If you need an adrenaline-fix, look no further than bungy jumping. For those adventurous types who live for challenges, you can jump 50 meters over the water of a jungle lagoon at the Jungle Bungy Jump in Kathu.

Go Carts

The Patong Go-kart Speedway is open every day from 10 am to 7 pm. Pit your driving skills on a challenging racing track. Single and double karts plus helmets are available and there's lighting for evening races.

Day Dives

Phuket diving day trips operate throughout the year to local dive sites and islands like Racha Noi and Phi Phi (about 1 ½ hours south of Phuket.)

Horseback Riding

There are two riding clubs in Phuket, both offering tours and instruction for people of all ages and abilities.

Closest to Orchidacea Resort: Phuket Riding Club, 95 Viset Rd, Rawai. Fees range between 300 Baht and 500 Baht an hour, depending on whether instruction is required. Open daily from 7am- 6.30pm (Tel: 076-288213).

About 45 minutes away by taxi: Phuket Bang Tao Riding Club, 394 Moo 1, at the entrance to Laguna Resorts. Fee from 660 Baht per hour (Tel: 076-324199 or 076-324099).

Elephant Trek

Pick up from hotel and transfer to Chalong. Travel to Siam Safari elephant camp at Chalong Highlands. Information will be given on elephants and Siam Safari’s elephant conservation project. Trek on elephant back in the hills with panoramic views over Phuket Island. Meet some young elephants and see how they are trained. Travel by four-wheel drive Land Rover through Chalong's highlands. Arrive at Siam Safari elephant camp on the top of a mountain. See how monkeys are trained to pick coconuts and see them in action. Learn about buffaloes, you can try to sit on one as well and later ride on a wooden cart pulled by a buffalo. See how coconuts are processed to make coconut milk and oil.

Phuket Town has a variety of malls awaiting the shopper. The upscale Central Festival, Index, Homeworks, Robinsons and Ocean, are conveniently located. There is also a multiplex between Robinsons and Ocean for a good movie and Swensons across the street to end the evening with a sweet treat. Old Phuket town has a variety of antique shops to wander through. There is also an outlet center that has recently opened on the by-pass road.
